Trump's proposal to prohibit state regulation of AI faces another obstacle

Donald Trumps controversial initiative to prevent individual states from regulating artificial intelligence has encountered yet another obstacle. The proposal, which has drawn significant backing from major tech companies, has repeatedly failed to gain traction.

Earlier this year, Trumps initial attempt to enforce a 10-year pause on state-level AI legislation was removed from the federal budget he signed into law, effectively halting the plan. Even some of his closest supporters, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Steve Bannon, expressed opposition to the measure.

Trumps latest effort sought to include the ban within the National Defense Authorization Act. However, the proposal faced strong resistance across the political spectrum, with critics ranging from House Progressive Caucus Leader Greg Casar to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Recent reports indicate that this attempt is also stalled.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise stated that Republican leaders are considering alternative legislative avenues, acknowledging that the NDAA wasnt the best place for this to fit.

Observers now anticipate that Republicans may try to revive the proposal through other channels, even as some MAGA-aligned figures continue to voice concerns over potential future efforts to implement it.
