Miley Cyrus Reveals 'Unexpected' Engagement to Maxx Morando: 'I Was Completely Open'

Miley Cyrus has opened up about her recent engagement to Maxx Morando, revealing that the proposal caught her completely off guard. The 33-year-old singer discussed the surprise during an interview on Good Morning America with Chris Connelly on December 3.

Cyrus, who has been dating Morando for four years, explained that her fianc, 27, got down on one knee and successfully kept the moment a secret. "I am not easy to surprise because I love to control every situation, and I had completely surrendered," she said. "I was so, so, so surprised."

Confirming that she enthusiastically said yes, Cyrus complimented Morando on choosing her chunky gold engagement ring, describing it as a perfect fit for her style. She reflected on how her engagement coincided beautifully with the release of her song for the Avatar: Fire and Ash soundtrack. "Those two things kind of, I guess you could say, marrying each other and harmonizing with each other," she said.

After returning home from the engagement, Cyrus immersed herself in the world of Avatar, noting the films focus on relationships and mutual support resonated deeply with her own life. She described her new song, "Dream as One," as intimate and diary-like, highlighting the shared dreams and growth she and Morando have experienced together. "Me and Max have been together for four years and its very obvious the drastic amount of growth Ive had in those four years," she said. "You just want to dream the biggest you can and you want to have someone by your side that always tells you you can do it."

The couples romance first came into public view in December 2021, when they were photographed backstage during Cyrus NBC holiday special in Miami. They recently attended the Avatar: Fire and Ash premiere in Los Angeles on December 1, showcasing Cyrus new engagement ring designed by Jacquie Aiche.

Cyrus also emphasized the importance of privacy in their relationship, explaining that keeping the engagement low-key allowed her to have more control over what she shares publicly. "I think it's also being older, being more protective of what I'm open to sharing," she added.
