New York magazine celebrated its annual Culturati 50 list on Wednesday evening, highlighting a diverse group of actors, artists, and cultural influencers shaping entertainment today. The event, held at Manuela in SoHo, brought together the magazines editor-in-chief, David Haskell, with cover stars including Parker Posey, Claire Danes, and Rachel Zegler.
Upon her arrival, Posey charmed photographers with playful poses, noting the flair of her flowing skirt. The gathering reflected the magazines commitment to honoring contributors across a broad cultural spectrum, from music and theater to film and visual arts.
Guests included notable figures such as Adam Scott of Severance, Ben Trotter from The Gilded Age, comedian Benito Skinner, Pulitzer-winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, and Jeff Hiller of Somebody Somewhere. The event also spotlighted rising talents like Bess Wohl and Stephanie Wambugu.
Haskell explained that the Culturati list is intended to become a yearly reflection of culture, emphasizing notable accomplishments rather than just celebrity status. We wanted to cross disciplines and celebrate those who made a distinct impact this year, he said, citing works like the Broadway play Liberation, which resonated strongly in todays sociopolitical context.
Several attendees commented on the close relationship between art and politics. Julio Torres observed, Culture and politics feed into each other; its impossible to separate the two. Claire Danes, who introduced herself as a fan, reflected on the evolving role of artists in political discourse.
Torres, alongside collaborator Martine Gutierrez, is preparing a project for the 2026 Whitney Biennial, hinting at an innovative underwater concept. Benito Skinner attributed the surge in creative work to societal anxieties, noting that viewers can expect the second season of Overcompensating to be bolder and more irreverent.
Posey expressed how participating in the Culturati celebration heightened her cultural awareness. Being recognized within the moment doesnt change the workit just reminds you how much joy art can bring, she said.
Actress Frances Turner, gearing up for the Season Two premiere of Fallout, emphasized the importance of engaging deeply with culture, citing institutions like MoMA and the Met as places of inspiration and connection.
Newcomers Sophie Silva and Kalita Hon highlighted the vibrant interplay of people at the event, describing New York as a city where spontaneous interactions fuel cultural conversation. You just have to step outside, Hon remarked, capturing the essence of the citys creative energy.
