Jennifer Aniston was very clear about her thoughts on the Friends theme song

The theme track of the iconic sitcom "Friends," "I'll Be There for You" by The Rembrandts, is widely remembered as one of the standout TV theme songs of the 1990s. However, some of the show's stars have admitted that performing for its opening sequence was not always enjoyable.

During a 2016 interview on the UK show The One Show promoting her film Office Christmas Party, Jennifer Aniston was asked how she feels when hearing the series famous theme. She candidly shared, No one was really a big fan of that theme song. We felt it was a little, I don't know. Dancing in a pond? A fountain felt sort of odd. But we did it... because we were told to.

Other cast members have also expressed their frustrations with filming the fountain scene, where the six actors danced in and around a large fountain on the Warner Bros. lot. On a 2024 appearance on the Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend podcast, Lisa Kudrow described the experience as a nightmare, citing the cold water and late-night shoot hours. She explained, Mild, any kind, I don't like it. And that fountain was cold. And it was very late at night. We'd done, I think, 500 takes of dancing unmotivated dancing is hard, too, right? It's just... it's hard.

Kudrow added that the cast frequently received last-minute instructions, recalling one instance: Hey! What if you play with that scarf? to which she replied, No! I don't want to! It's not funny! Matthew Perry helped lighten the mood by joking about the repeated takes, saying, One more? Okay. Can't remember a time I wasn't in a fountain. Seriously, can't remember a time I wasn't wet.

Courteney Cox shared a similar memory in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, saying, We were in that fountain for a long time. Somebody thought that would just be really fun, and let me tell you what happens it's not fun to be dancing in a fountain for hours and hours.
