Hilary Swank's 'Look of Horror' When She Forgot to Thank Then-Husband Chad Lowe in Oscar Speech

Chad Lowe recently recalled seeing a "look of terror and horror" on his then-wife Hilary Swanks face during the 2000 Oscars when she realized she had not acknowledged him in her acceptance speech. Swank, now 51, had just received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Boys Dont Cry.

On the Still Here Hollywood podcast, Lowe, 57, described the moment when Swank forgot to mention him, as the host Steve Kmetko asked about the ride home after the ceremony. Lowe reflected, The moment I remember is as soon as someone steps on stage, they start a countdown, like 30 seconds. The look on her face was pure terror because she realized she hadnt I felt awful for her. I didnt even think about myself at that time, just for her.

Lowe continued, The first thing I told her was that she didnt need to thank me. She had already acknowledged me enough. Theres a public expectation, but I never felt unappreciated or forgotten. I only felt sympathy for her.

Swank would later win her second Best Actress Oscar in 2005 for her performance as a boxer in Million Dollar Baby alongside Clint Eastwood. Swank and Lowe were married from 1997 to 2007 and have since moved on with their lives. Swank is now married to Philip Schneider, and the couple welcomed twins, Ohm and Aya, in 2023. Lowe is married to Kim Painter, with whom he shares three daughters.
