Gillian Anderson has recreated the unforgettable gown she wore to the 2024 Golden Globes for her wax figure at Madame Tussauds London. The actress, known for her role in Sex Education, discussed the unique design during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on December 2.
At 57, Anderson revealed that her wax figure wears a near-identical version of the custom Gabriela Hearst dress, famously adorned with hundreds of vulva motifs. She explained that the original couture piece was meticulously duplicated for the London wax museum.
"Its a dress Gabriela Hearst made for the Golden Globes, with hundreds of vulvas," Anderson said, describing the painstaking effort behind the gowns creation. "Many artisans spent countless hours crafting the details. The same designer who made the original also made the replica for Madame Tussauds."
Discussing her reaction to seeing the lifelike figure, Anderson admitted, "It looks exactly like me and nothing like me at the same time. Standing in front of it can be eerie, almost like its alive and looking back at me." She added that her family had a similar reaction, being both shocked and impressed by the sculpture.
The wax figure was unveiled in November, and Anderson explained her decision to wear the striking dress for the figures launch. "When Madame Tussauds asked to make a wax figure, I wondered why anyone would want a version of me on the red carpet. Then I thought about this dress and realized it captured a moment from the Golden Globes perfectly," she said. "The dress sparked much more conversation than I expected, and the reactions were overwhelmingly positive."
Anderson emphasized the symbolic significance of the gown. "This dress represents womens empowerment, celebrating bodily autonomy and freedom from shame. I wanted people to experience standing next to it and appreciate its bold statement."
Earlier, she described the gowns design inspiration to PEOPLE, noting its floral elements and saying, "Its covered in peonies!" On the red carpet, she openly acknowledged the vulva motifs, explaining to reporters that the design honored female anatomy. According to the label, each embroidery took three and a half hours to complete, highlighting the extraordinary craftsmanship behind the piece.
