Wonho discusses his new album, clubbing, and a Secret Santa gift that made him 'happy and proud'

After completing his required military service in Korea, Wonho says stepping away from the spotlight allowed him to rediscover his artistic drive. Now 32, the global K-pop performer has returned with SYNDROME, his most expansive and personal project to date, released at the end of October.

The album marks his first full-length studio release and arrives more than five years after his departure from Monsta X. For Wonho, the ten-track collection represents a defining moment the chance to finally craft a body of work that reflects his voice without compromise.

I always wanted to create a complete album, but circumstances didnt always allow it, he explains. The long break gave me the chance to prepare carefully and focus deeply. It truly feels like a fresh chapter.

Running under half an hour, SYNDROME blends energetic tracks like the opener Fun with introspective songs such as At the Time. Wonho shifts between playful, sultry, and vulnerable moods, revealing what he describes as every facet of himself. Each track carries its own mood and emotion, he says. I spent a lot of time making sure each one expressed something different.

Inside the Recording Process

Wonho shares that the studio atmosphere was lively throughout production. He recorded close to twenty songs, though only half made the final cut. He hints that the unreleased tracks may find a place on future projects, confirming that he is already thinking ahead.

On Parties, Touring, and Inspiration

Although several songs feel designed for a night out, the singer laughs at the idea of being a party enthusiast. Clubs arent his scene, he admits, though his recent European tour offered a kind of celebration of its own as he reconnected with fans country by country. He also says he rarely drinks, making exceptions for holidays when he shares wine with friends.

When he does spend time in public, fans are generally respectful, giving him space to enjoy simple activities like dining or shopping. To stay inspired, Wonho prefers travel, morning runs, and observing everyday surroundings during busy schedules.

Longevity in Music

Reflecting on his decade since debut, Wonho credits his continued success to two core principles: staying close to fans and remaining consistent. He says their direct reactions to his work matter most, and constant practice helps him present his best self. For honest feedback, he relies heavily on his team and producers, who dont hesitate to tell him when something needs improvement.

A Christmas Memory That Stuck

Asked about his most memorable holiday gift, Wonho recalls receiving a large LEGO set in preschool while other children got much smaller presents. Only later did he learn that the Santa distributing gifts was giving out items parents had brought in advance and the LEGO set was from his father. I felt so happy and proud, he remembers.

Gifts He Wants to Give

Looking ahead, Wonho says the best gift he can offer is new music and more opportunities to meet fans worldwide. After his time away, he wants to devote himself fully to sharing performances and growth with the people who have supported him throughout his journey.
