Global wealth inequality continues to spark intense discussion, with its consequences felt across society. One of the clearest illustrations of this disparity is its impact on the environment. A recent Facebook post by the account BillWatch highlighted this issue with an image of billionaire Shahid Khans opulent superyacht, Kismet, docked in Weymouth Bay.

According to the Dorset Echo, Kismet stretches 400 feet in length and boasts a sauna, a cryotherapy chamber, a helipad, and a fully equipped gym and yoga studio. Such massive vessels contribute significantly to environmental degradation. With transportation accounting for 16.2% of global carbon emissions, as reported by Our World In Data, the public backlash is understandable.

The Guardian notes that superyachts can emit more carbon than some small nations. The resources and energy required for their construction and upkeep are enormous. Another Guardian report estimates that a single superyacht produces roughly 1,500 times the annual emissions of a typical family car. Consequently, many see these yachts as symbols of environmental irresponsibility.

Khans Kismet is far from unique. For example, a large yacht once ran aground off the coast of Maui, causing severe damage to coral reefs and igniting widespread outrage. Nevertheless, some technological advancements aim to reduce the environmental impact of luxury boating. Austrian company Silent-Yachts has developed solar-powered large boats, while Arc Boats, founded in 2021, is striving to create a fleet of high-end electric yachts, positioning itself as the "Tesla" of the maritime world.

Responses to the Facebook post were filled with frustration. One user commented: "They want you to admire their wealth while others suffer due to greed. Do we really want to admire them? I certainly don't." Another added, "How many hospital wards could this fund "
