A passenger vessel carrying 137 individuals collided with a bridge along the MainDanube Canal in Bavaria, southern Germany, authorities reported. The incident occurred late Friday evening as the ship was approaching a lock near Dietfurt, located in the Neumarkt district, roughly 70 kilometres southeast of Nuremberg.
Officials explained that the ship's wheelhouse was not sufficiently lowered, resulting in a significant impact with the bridge. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members emerged from the accident unharmed.
The damage to the ship and bridge has been assessed to reach a high five-figure sum. Following the collision, authorities have temporarily prohibited the vessel from continuing its voyage.
