Darius Slay uncertain about NFL future, will not join Buffalo Bills after being claimed on waivers

Darius Slay may opt not to join the Buffalo Bills after being claimed off waivers, sources report. The veteran cornerback parted ways with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday by mutual agreement.

Slay is grateful to be recognized by an organization of Buffalos caliber, but he plans to take some time away from football to determine in the coming days whether he will continue his playing career, said Slays agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

Slay has not been on the field since November 9 due to a concussion, causing him to miss the Steelers' Week 11 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Though he practiced in a limited capacity during Week 12, he was cleared from the injury report but remained inactive for the teams loss to the Bills.

This season, Slay signed a one-year contract with the Steelers after four years and a Super Bowl win with the Philadelphia Eagles. Prior to that, he began his career with four seasons at the Detroit Lions, a team currently needing cornerback depth after losing Terrion Arnold to a season-ending shoulder injury.

A six-time Pro Bowler, Slay earned three selections each during his stints with the Eagles and Lions. The Bills hold his rights if he decides to return to the NFL. Additionally, the Eagles reportedly placed a claim for Slay, according to NFL Networks Ian Rapoport.
