White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revived a phrase famously used by Donald Trump during his first term, only to face ridicule online for missing the irony. On Monday, Leavitt announced on social media that the White House website will feature a new section called Media Offender of the Week, aimed at highlighting what the administration calls fake newsa term Trump has often used to criticize journalism he dislikes.
Leavitt further fueled the reaction by telling reporters about all the fake news that we see pumped out of this building on a day to day basis. Social media users quickly pointed out the irony, considering Trumps history of spreading misinformation. Critics mocked the initiative as a government-led platform to publicly shame journalists, comparing it to authoritarian tactics.
Imagine yelling FAKE NEWS!! and your big solution is a government bully board where you publicly shame journalists who print things you dont like. Congrats on reinventing North Koreas homepage with worse graphic design. Terra (@Iget2bme72)
This is the exact type of tactic used by authoritarian governments when they want to discredit and control the press. The first step is always: declare independent media the enemy and elevate state-approved truthsounds familiar Chief Marvel (@MarvelWarRoom)
I get why she feels that way - when your job is to lie non-stop, reality gets to be overwhelming. Lib Dunk (@libdunkmedia)

How do I join the 'Media Offender of the Week' section? Oh come on... That's a Badge of Honor considering the source! Leftcoast American (@jtamuw)
Leavitts statement follows a pattern of unintentional truths from prominent Republicans. In September, Sen. Ted Cruz, during a committee hearing, rhetorically suggested, How about we all come together and say, Lets stop attacking pedophiles. In October, House Speaker Mike Johnson attempted to label his party as anti-Nazi but accidentally said, We defended that evil ideology.
