XG’s Cocona Reveals Identity as Transmasculine, Nonbinary

Cocona, a 20-year-old member of the internationally acclaimed hip-hop and R&B-influenced group XG, has publicly shared that they identify as transmasculine and nonbinary. The announcement was made in a birthday post on the group's official Instagram account.

Today I turned 20, and as I enter this new phase of my life, I want to share something very personal, Cocona wrote. I am AFAB transmasculine nonbinary, and earlier this year I underwent top surgery.

In their statement, Cocona explained their journey with gender identity: I was assigned female at birth, but that label never reflected who I really am. I live in a way that feels more masculine and authentic. Accepting myself has been the most challenging experience of my life. As I embraced my true self, I discovered a new perspective on the world and gained the courage and strength to grow. Now I can truly say, Theres nothing wrong with who I am inside.

The rapper credited the other XG members, the groups producer and label CEO Simon Jakops, and their family for supporting them throughout their journey. Cocona expressed gratitude for the experiences that led them to this point: Im thankful for every moment that brought us together and guided me to where I am today.

Wrapping up their message, Cocona said, Thank you for walking beside me and supporting me all this way. Im excited for the future we will continue to build together with XG and XGALX.

XG is a seven-member group consisting of Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya, and Cocona, and they made their debut in 2022.
