Simon Cowell Acknowledges Being Rude and Admits to Going Too Far

Simon Cowell has opened up about his behavior during his early years as a judge on American Idol, admitting that his critiques often went too far. In a recent interview, the television producer described himself as being a d*** during auditions, acknowledging that some of his remarks were unnecessarily severe.

Looking back, Cowell explained that his intention was never to be cruel, but rather to identify contestants with real potential in the music industry. All I wanted was to find artists who could succeed, he said. When people came in who couldnt sing, we would say after a few seconds, You cant sing, rather than giving false praise.

The TV personality also reflected on the long and tiring audition days, which often left him short-tempered. He noted that moments of impatience were the ones most frequently aired. Theyre always going to show me in a bad mood. I understand that. What can I say? Im sorry, he said.

Cowell confirmed that he has apologized for some of his harsher comments and admits he isnt proud of how he sometimes acted. When I see these clips, I think, Oh, God. But at the same time, its part of what made the shows so popular worldwide, he shared.

These remarks come ahead of the release of his new Netflix series, Simon Cowell: The Next Act, which premieres on December 10.
