Billy Ray Cyrus' former spouse Firerose suggests she endured 'narcissistic abuse' 18 months following tumultuous breakup

Billy Ray Cyrus' former spouse Firerose reflects on her time with the "Achy Breaky Heart" artist but not in a positive light. On Thursday, the Australian musician, whose birth name is Johanna Rose Hodge, shared a harsh Instagram post, featuring a video montage of the couple's past moments. Along with the video, she captioned, "If you've endured narcissistic abuse, you're not alone. It's terrifying how common these experiences are. Behind closed doors, the pattern is always the same: control, isolation, rage, manipulation, walking on eggshells, cognitive dissonance, and the feeling that you're the only one going through it. But I assure you, God sees everything, and there is a light at the end of the tunnel."

The video was accompanied by a mashup of Billy Joel's "Piano Man" and Fleetwood Mac's "Silver Springs," a track that Stevie Nicks famously penned about her split from bandmate Lindsey Buckingham. Firerose added, "You are much stronger than you realize. Love is real, even when what you're facing is abuse, not love."

Firerose and Billy Ray Cyrus tied the knot in October 2023, after being in a relationship for over a year. However, just seven months later, Cyrus filed for divorce, with sources revealing that Firerose was not the person he thought he married. It was reported that Cyrus believed Firerose's motivations were more about financial security than love, adding that there were ongoing issues with money and trust in their relationship.

In her response to the divorce petition, Firerose claimed in court documents that she had been subjected to "extreme verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse." In contrast, Cyrus denied the allegations, stating that he had been both physically and emotionally mistreated during the relationship.

The divorce was officially finalized in August 2024. Cyrus' legal team told EW at the time that he was "relieved to put this nightmare behind him." On the other hand, a source close to Firerose told PEOPLE that she chose to "walk away without fighting for money to escape the toxic relationship and anything related to Billy."

Earlier this year, Cyrus confirmed he is dating model and actress Elizabeth Hurley, and the couple attended the CMA Awards together.
