Ozzy Osbourne Honored with Birmingham Lord Mayor's Award Posthumously on His 77th Birthday

On what would have been his 77th birthday, Ozzy Osbourne was posthumously honored with the prestigious Lord Mayor's Award from Birmingham, six months after his passing. This annual accolade, presented for "outstanding achievement or exceptional service to the city and people of Birmingham," was especially meaningful given Ozzy's deep connection to his hometown. His daughter, Kelly Osbourne, shared a heartfelt video message expressing gratitude to the people of Birmingham for their unwavering support for her family and for making Ozzy feel "the happiest man on the planet."

Kelly, accompanied by her mother, Sharon Osbourne, received the honor on behalf of the late rocker. The Osbourne family was also presented with a book of condolences, which Kelly described as containing "hundreds of thousands" of tributes from the citizens of Birmingham. "The one thing my father was most proud of is that he was a Brummie," Kelly said, referring to the affectionate term for Birmingham residents. "And Birmingham has done him proud."

Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 at the age of 76, just days after a memorable performance at Birmingham's Villa Park. This show, which included his solo hits and a reunion with Black Sabbath, was part of the star-studded "Back to the Beginning" tribute, which featured performances from Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, and others.

A social media post from the city's Lord Mayor highlighted the presentation of the Lord Mayor's Award to Kelly and Sharon Osbourne, as well as the Book of Condolences. The caption read, "Today, the Deputy Lord Mayor and I were honored to meet with the Osbourne family and posthumously present Ozzy Osbournes Lord Mayors Award and the Book of Condolences following his passing. An iconic and much-missed son of Birmingham, the city he loved so much ."

Sharon Osbourne also paid tribute to her late husband with an emotional birthday message posted on Instagram, set to Ozzys 1995 ballad "See You On the Other Side." The video featured scenes from a birthday tribute in Birmingham and cherished photos of the couple through the years. Sharon wrote, "My darling husband, I celebrate the day you were born. I will never let go of your hand until I see you on the other side."

Son Jack Osbourne shared his own touching tribute, posting a video to Ozzy's cover of "In My Life" by The Beatles, accompanied by nostalgic photos of father and son over the years. The official Ozzy X account also marked the occasion by sharing a video of Ozzys ballad "Mama, Im Coming Home" along with a commemorative T-shirt featuring a childhood photo of Ozzy and the message "Made in Birmingham."

On Ozzy Osbourne's 77th birthday, the Osbourne family returned to Birmingham to receive the Lord Mayor's Award and the Book of Condolences in honor of Ozzys legacy and the impact he had on his beloved city.
