Obscure, Unsettling, Unrated Thriller Will Haunt You Forever

Occasionally, a film you've never heard of appears on streaming platforms and leaves an unforgettable impact. Chameleon (2024), a movie so obscure that it lacks even a Wikipedia page at the time of writing, manages to captivate with its intense, slow-burning narrative about a serial killer's originsa tale that will thrill any true crime enthusiast. This neo-noir thriller is not a typical slasher filled with gore, but rather a deep dive into the mind of a man who gradually accepts his darkest instincts. The film explores the unsettling idea that those who scare us the most could be hiding in plain sight, unveiling one mans descent into his most dangerous self.

A Cold, Unfeeling Realtor

We first meet Knoll Ashby, a successful realtor who enjoys a local celebrity status with his face plastered all over town. His only friend, Mark (Carson Charles Butcher), occasionally invites him over, though Knolls presence is unwelcome in Marks household, particularly with Marks wife, Dina (Leanne Johnson), who finds him intolerable. Still, Knoll continues to maintain the friendship, helping Mark close on a new home despite the strained dynamic.

One day, while alone and mired in dissatisfaction, Knoll watches an interview with a notorious serial killer. A comment made by the killer sparks something in Knoll, causing him to consider murder as a new, thrilling hobby. Though he has never contemplated killing anyone before, Knoll finds himself drawn to the idea. Driven by a desire for change, a challenge, and the need to feel something beyond the monotony of his existence, he hesitates but ultimately claims his first victima mechanic he was considering hiring for his car. From that moment, there is no turning back. Knoll revels in the rush, and quickly starts plotting his next kill.

The Investigator

The film introduces Detective Dietz (Steven Sean Garland), a seasoned officer who recently transferred to the homicide department. His first case involves investigating a series of disappearances that seem linked to Knolls newfound hobby, which sends the town into a state of panic.
