The NFL has revealed that Brandi Carlile will join the lineup for the 2026 Super Bowl, scheduled for February 8 in Santa Clara, California. The 11-time Grammy-winning artist will perform America the Beautiful as part of a pre-game showcase that also features musicians Coco Jones and Charlie Puth.
Jon Barker, NFL senior vice president of global event production, stated that this years performers were chosen for their representation of the very best of music and culture, adding, These artists bring a distinct voice to the moment, helping set the tone for a day that will captivate fans around the world.
Carlile, known for maintaining a lower public profile than fellow headliner Bad Bunny, is a folk-rock singer-songwriter and openly lesbian. She has previously voiced her criticism of the Trump administration. In a 2016 interview with NPR affiliate KUOW-FM, she commented on Trump supporters, saying, Im a little concerned as to why they are [Trump supporters], but I am listening.
Her most recent album, Returning to Myself, includes the track Church & State, with lyrics that critics interpret as political commentary. Carlile has also collaborated with Joni Mitchell, who has publicly expressed opposition to former President Trump.
The announcement of Carliles appearance has sparked mixed reactions online, similar to the response to Bad Bunnys Super Bowl performance. Some social media users questioned whether the event should feature mainstream performers rather than singer-songwriters with niche followings.
For viewers who may opt out of the NFL broadcast, alternative programming is in the works. In October, Turning Point USA, a conservative political organization, announced plans for the All American Halftime Show, a MAGA-themed event to coincide with the Super Bowl. Performers for this alternative show have not yet been confirmed, though the events website allows visitors to vote on the use of anything in English.
