George Pickens demonstrates to Cowboys why Steelers were keen on trading him

Throughout most of the 2025 season, George Pickens has performed at an elite level, showing the skill many Pittsburgh Steelers fans hoped he could reach. He currently ranks second in the NFL for receiving yards and is tied for third in touchdown catches.

Despite his clear talent, it wasnt ability that caused the Steelers to move on from Pickens. His attitude on the field has often been the concern, marked by visible frustration and a lack of effort when plays werent directed his way.

The Cowboys got a firsthand look at this side of Pickens. On multiple occasions, he appeared disengaged, including jogging during a 3rd-and-19 late in the third quarter, resulting in an incomplete pass. Later, a deep pass in the fourth quarter might have been caught if he had fully committed. These moments served as reminders of the times Pickens seems to lose focus and motivation.

George Pickens throughout the game especially late in the game just looked uninterested, said Richard Sherman on the Prime Video postgame show. Uninterested in playing football. And thats what you cant have if youre gonna be a superstar. If you want to be the best receiver in the NFL, you cant ever be disengaged.

Pickens talent is undeniable, and he has outshined every Steelers wide receiver this season. Yet, this type of on-field behavior contributes to a negative perception and explains why the Steelers were willing to trade the former second-round pick.
