Baz Luhrmann traveled from Tokyo to host an exclusive FYC event for Wicked: For Good, noting that his role was simple compared to the achievements of the film's director, Jon M. Chu. Luhrmann praised Chu for bringing the two-part musical to life and acknowledged the unique impact of such a large-scale musical adaptation.

"Coming from Tokyo to do this is easy, because creating a live-action musical of this magnitude is incredibly challenging," Luhrmann explained. "This film resonates across generations, combining classical elements with modern pop sensibilities. It's about inclusivity and bringing people together through the power of music, which often conveys emotions words alone cannot."

Luhrmann also shared a memory from two decades ago, when he attempted to stage a live production of La Bohme in San Francisco and discovered that the theater hosting Wicked was considered a risky venture at the time. He humorously credited Chu with helping transform the story into the spectacular films it is today.

Jon M. Chu reflected on the creative journey of directing the Wicked films. "Working on this project pushes you to dream bigger than you imagined. You rely on colleagues who believe in you even on the toughest days, and together you create something extraordinary," he said.

Following their introductions, Luhrmann and Chu presented performances by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who sang a duet of "For Good" as well as "Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again." These performances had previously been featured during the Wicked: One Wonderful Night special.

The event highlighted the enduring magic of the Wicked musical and celebrated its adaptation for a new generation of audiences through exceptional performances and cinematic storytelling.
