Channing Tatum paid a moving tribute to Stephen "tWitch" Boss during the first-ever Dance Hall of Fame event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, just days before the third anniversary of Boss' passing at age 40.
Speaking about his time with the late dancer, Tatum, who starred alongside Boss in Magic Mike XXL, shared, I promised myself I wasnt going to cry. I do this because tWitch made me laugh constantly. To say its an honor to speak about him is an understatement. I spent a lot of time thinking about what to say, since many here knew tWitch longer or more personally than I did. But I worked with him, and I got to know him well.
He reflected on first seeing Boss perform as a contestant on So You Think You Can Dance in 2008, describing the moment as unforgettable. My brain couldnt comprehend how this large, striking man moved with such grace. I was a bigger guy and couldnt imagine moving like that, Tatum said.
The actor also recalled Boss humor and charisma. Then he had to open his mouth and be funny, too. That annoyed me at first, but then hed smile, and you instantly fell in love with him. That was tWitch, Tatum shared.
He highlighted Boss ability to light up any room and inspire those around him. He made all of us fall in love with him. He entered a room and filled it. He encouraged you to be your best self and accepted you exactly as you were. He wanted to help and be present, Tatum said.
Tatum admitted having a deep admiration for Boss, noting a shared Alabama connection. Maybe it was because were both from Alabama. Roll Tide, by the way. Im sure hes laughing at me right now. Knowing him was an honor, and calling him a friend was even greater. Ill see him again.
Boss portrayed Malik, a dancer in Tatums Magic Mike ensemble, in the 2017 film Magic Mike XXL. Tatum later continued the series with Magic Mikes Last Dance in 2023.
After Boss death, Tatum expressed his grief on social media: I have no words. There arent any. My head or heart cannot understand this. Ill see you again, my friend. Until then.
