The quirky world of the South Georgia Catfish will return as Hulu confirmed a second season of Chad Powers, the comedy series led by Glen Powell. Powell reprises his role as the titular character in the new season.
The show, co-created by Powell and Michael Waldron, draws inspiration from ESPN and Omaha Productions segment Elis Places, where Eli Manning wore prosthetics to attempt a walk-on tryout at Penn State.
Season 1 introduced audiences to Powells character, Russ Holliday, a disgraced former Oregon star quarterback attempting a comeback eight years after sabotaging his own football career. To do so, he assumes the identity of Chad Powers, a gifted but unconventional player who joins the struggling South Georgia Catfish as a walk-on. The first season concluded with a cliffhanger as Chad and the Catfish faced the Georgia Bulldogs, while Russ secret identity teetered on the verge of exposure. The finale was filmed during an actual Georgia Bulldogs game, reflecting the creators commitment to authentic SEC football, a practice Waldron intends to continue in the upcoming season.
The storyline of Season 2 is expected to follow closely on the heels of Season 1s events, maintaining the real-time narrative approach envisioned by Powell and Waldron.
Since its September 30 debut, Chad Powers has performed strongly on streaming charts. It initially ranked No. 34 in Luminates Top 50 streaming shows with nearly 1.6 million hours watched for a single episode, later climbing to No. 19 with 2.2 million hours across two episodes. The series maintained a presence on Luminates weekly rankings throughout its six-episode run.
Alongside Powell in dual roles as Chad Powers and Russ Holliday, Season 1 featured Perry Mattfeld (Ricky), Quentin Plair (Coach Byrd), Wynn Everett (Tricia Yeager), Frankie A. Rodriguez (Danny), and Steve Zahn (Coach Jake Hudson).
Executive producers for the series include Powell, Waldron, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, Burke Magnus, Brian Lockhart, Kati Fernandez, Adam Fasullo, Luvh Rakhe, and Tony Yacenda. The show is produced by 20th Television and Season 1 is available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
