WASHINGTON, Dec 2 The U.S. Postal Service is now operating over 2,600 electric vehicles for mail distribution, according to a letter sent to Congress and reviewed by Reuters on Tuesday.
Earlier this year, Congress allocated $3 billion to the USPS for the acquisition of electric vehicles and charging stations, including $1.2 billion specifically earmarked for electric vehicles.
In a letter dated November 17, the USPS stated it has acquired 8,700 Ford E-Transit vans, with 2,010 of them actively delivering mail at 65 locations. Additionally, the Postal Service is using 612 custom-built electric Next Generation Delivery Vehicles from Oshkosh Defense, currently operating at 15 locations.
