The Powerball jackpot has surged to a staggering $820 million for Saturday night after no ticket matched all numbers in Wednesdays drawing. The numbers drawn on Wednesday were 1, 14, 20, 46, 51 with a red Powerball of 26.
While the grand prize went unclaimed, three players won significant secondary prizes. A participant in Kentucky claimed $2 million through the Match 5 + Power Play, and two other winners, from California and Florida, each secured $1 million by matching five numbers.
The jackpot has grown from a previous estimate of $779 million to $820 million, with a corresponding cash value of $383.5 million. Players who hit the jackpot can choose between a lump-sum payment or an annuity. The full $820 million reflects the annuity option, paid out in 30 yearly installments, while the lump-sum cash option offers $383.5 million.
Earlier this year, a Missouri and a Texas player shared a nearly $1.8 billion Powerball prize. The Missouri winner described himself as a homebody and remarked on enjoying the win quietly with his family.
The record for the largest Powerball jackpot remains at $2.04 billion, claimed in November 2022 by Edwin Castro from California. That historic prize also contributed $156 million to California public schools, a portion of funds generated from state ticket sales. Since 1985, the California Lottery has provided over $48 billion to support public education in the state.
