During an appearance on Fox News, host Laura Ingraham questioned FBI Director Kash Patel regarding his use of the bureaus jet for personal and recreational travel. The discussion follows revelations from a New York Post report published on Monday, which summarized findings from a 115-page investigation drawing on anonymous accounts from 24 current and former FBI personnel.
The report, prepared for congressional members, described the FBI under Patels leadership as a rudderless ship and in significant disarray. It also included an incident where Patel allegedly refused to leave the plane until provided with a medium-sized flak jacket.
In response, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee have launched an inquiry into Patels travel on the FBI aircraft. In a letter to the director, Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) cited instances including a romantic overnight trip, a Scottish golf outing, and a visit to a luxury hunting retreat called Boondoggle Ranch, all using a $60 million government jet.
During Tuesdays broadcast of The Ingraham Angle, Patel addressed the scrutiny, emphasizing that FBI directors are required to use agency aircraft for travel and are not permitted to fly commercially. He criticized previous leadership for spending millions of taxpayer dollars by using D.C.s Reagan National Airport as a hub rather than government airfields, a policy he has since changed.
Patel further defended his personal life, explaining that he has taken fewer trips on the FBI plane than his predecessors and that he is entitled to spend time with his partner. He asserted that the criticisms regarding flak jackets and plane usage are misleading and do not reflect the successes of the bureau under his direction.
The segment highlighted the ongoing political tensions surrounding the FBI and its leadership, with Patel stressing that former officials often align with political adversaries to challenge current agency operations.
