Venezuelan President Nicols Maduro has granted Washingtons request to restart deportation flights from the United States, according to Transport Minister Ramn Celestino Velsquez on Tuesday. This decision comes amid heightened tensions between the two nations.
Recently, US President Donald Trump declared that Venezuelan airspace should be considered closed. In response, Caracas stated that Washington had independently suspended further deportation flights carrying migrants.
The US has escalated its stance toward Venezuela in recent weeks, deploying the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford along with additional naval vessels to the Caribbean, citing efforts to combat drug trafficking. Analysts suggest these moves could indicate preparations for targeted operations in Venezuela or attempts to influence the government in Caracas.
Following warnings from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about increased military presence and security concerns, several international airlines temporarily halted flights to Venezuela.
Venezuelan officials report that approximately 14,000 migrants have been returned since March via 75 flights, despite rising tensions with the US. The latest flight, originating from Arizona, arrived on Friday carrying 136 returnees, according to local media.
