Authorities reported the discovery of cannabis plants worth 110,000 after a fire erupted at a former hotel. Emergency services were alerted at 04:50 GMT on Sunday when a blaze was reported at the abandoned Balmoral Hotel on Fort Terrace in Bridlington.
The building was vacant at the time, and no injuries were reported, according to Humberside Fire and Rescue. Investigators determined that the fire, deemed accidental, originated from a brazier used to burn charcoal or other solid fuel, which someone had been using to keep warm inside the property.
Four fire engines and an aerial ladder platform responded to the incident, with crews departing the scene by 09:30. Following the fire, Humberside Police discovered 198 cannabis plants inside the hotel.
The 34-room town centre hotel had been closed since 2019.
