Former Beauty Queen Faces Trial for Death of Boyfriend's Toddler — Prosecutors Allege Desire for Child

Trinity Poague is standing trial for the 2024 killing of her boyfriend's 18-month-old son, a charge she denies.

Prosecutors contend that Poague harbored resentment toward the child and desired a baby with her boyfriend instead.

Reports indicate the toddler suffered severe liver damage prior to his death.

The former beauty queen is accused of murdering her boyfriends young son, who was only 18 months old when he was fatally beaten. Poague faces multiple charges, including malice murder, first-degree cruelty to children, felony murder, and aggravated battery. She has entered a plea of not guilty.

Authorities from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Poague in January 2024 in connection with the death of Romeo Angeles, also known as Jaxton. The boy was discovered unresponsive on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University.

During trial proceedings broadcast on Court TV starting December 2, prosecutors argued that Poague resented the toddler because she wanted her own child with the boys father. They also presented evidence of text messages Poague allegedly sent to her roommate expressing a desire to harm the child.

According to an indictment cited by local media, Sumter County officials stated that Poagues actions inflicted serious disfigurement to his liver and rendered the childs brain useless.

Witnesses recalled hearing the toddler cry for an extended period before his cries abruptly stopped. Poague, who had previously held the title of Miss Donalsonville, lost her pageant crown following her arrest. A GoFundMe campaign for the childs father raised $12,000.
