A superyachts disastrous attempt at docking has resurfaced online, drawing widespread attention for the dramatic chaos it caused. A Reddit user shared a 90-second clip showing a striking electric-blue vessel colliding with a marina and dock.

Filmed from a smaller boat, the footage captures the enormous yacht plowing into the dock twice while passengers stroll casually across the deck. A voice in the background jokes that the crew might need a bumper sticker declaring themselves student drivers. The clip ends as the yacht tries to reverse away from the wreckage.

Marine Industry News later confirmed that the video depicts a 2021 incident involving the turquoise superyacht GO, which crashed into the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. The 252-foot vessel belongs to Capri-Sun billionaire Hans-Peter Wild and includes amenities such as a pool, gym, elevator, and helipad.

At the time, Captain Simon Johnson was navigating toward a narrow rotating bridge to exit Simpson Bay Lagoon when a sudden electronic failure caused the yacht to surge forward without steering control. With limited distance to the bridge and no opportunity to drop anchor, he directed the vessel toward a nearby dock to avoid striking the structure or risking a fuel spill. The maneuver prevented injuries and environmental damage, though Johnson later attributed the crash to an overly complicated network of fourteen computer systems that lacked any form of manual override.

Superyachts of this scale are frequently cited as examples of extreme excess, serving only a select few while consuming immense amounts of fuel and contributing disproportionate levels of carbon emissions. Their operation can strain local resources and harm delicate coastal environments, underscoring the broader environmental impact of luxury maritime travel.

The resurfaced video prompted a mix of humor and disbelief in the Reddit comments. One user joked about the improper parking job, while another remarked that the owner could easily cover the repair costs. A third commenter noted that restoring the yachts gelcoat would be more expensive than their own home.
