Giannis Antetokounmpo exits Bucks game due to right calf strain, undergoes MRI

Giannis Antetokounmpo became the center of attention in the NBA on Wednesday, but the focus was on a troubling reason. During the first quarter against the Pistons, Antetokounmpo collapsed while clutching his right calf. He was assisted off the court, limped to the locker room, and did not return, with the team confirming a calf strain.

Coach Doc Rivers shared after the game that Antetokounmpo was scheduled for an MRI, but there were no indications of Achilles tendon damage. The incident occurred just minutes into the match. Antetokounmpo drove along the baseline against Jalen Duren, passed to AJ Green for a lay-up, and as he ran back up the court, he slipped slightly and fell, grabbing his calf.

Rivers suggested that contact with a Pistons defender during the baseline drive might have contributed to the injury. Despite the fall, Antetokounmpo was able to walk off the court under his own power.

Earlier, Antetokounmpo had missed the 2024 playoffs because of a left calf strain. His current injury coincided with news that he and his agent had met with the Bucks management to discuss his future with the 10-13 team. While this fueled speculation about potential trades, Rivers confirmed no such discussions were ongoing. "Giannis has never asked to be traded ever," Rivers emphasized. Attention on trade rumors quickly shifted to concern over Antetokounmpo's health.
