Are you tackling today's New York Times Connections word puzzle? Here's a walkthrough to help you with puzzle #904. I made just one error while solving, so these hints (and spoilers) should guide you through Monday's challenge. Remember, these puzzles are meant to be tricky, so it's okay to peek.
How I Solved Today's Puzzle
I approached the groups in this order: green, purple, yellow, and then blue. Only the green group gave me a small mistake. If you're new to NYT Connections, here's a quick overview and some tips.
About NYT Connections
NYT Connections is a challenging word game. You are presented with a 4x4 grid of 16 words and must sort them into four color-coded groups: yellow, green, blue, and purple. Yellow groups are typically easiest, while purple is the hardest. Each group shares a common theme. For example, a recent blue group had the theme "related to buying a home" with words like appraisal, escrow, insurance, and mortgage.
If you make a mistake, the game allows four guesses before revealing the answers. You can also click the lightbulb for hints.
Playing Tips
- Pay attention to the feedback after an incorrect submission. "One away" means only one word is misplaced; analyze which word might fit better elsewhere.
- Shuffle the board if stuck. You can shuffle multiple times to see new word combinations.
- Start with the yellow group, which usually contains the most obvious commonalities. Watch out for words that could fit multiple categories.
- If frustrated, take a break and return later. A fresh perspective helps avoid mistakes.
Hints for Today's Puzzle
- Blue group: The author's first name is Franz
- Purple group: Only the first half of the words matter
Official Group Names & Words
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
- Yellow group Complete turn: circuit, lap, orbit, revolution
- Green group Circular things: full moon, LP, pizza pie, pupil
- Blue group Kafka works with "The": Castle, Judgement, Metamorphosis, Trial
- Purple group Starting with letter homophones: eye contact, pea soup, sea change, tea leaves
For me, the Kafka-themed blue group was the toughest since Ive only read Metamorphosis. I noticed a circular theme early, which helped me place "circuit" before "LP" in my first guess.
