Ilhan Omar Responds to Trump's Repeated Attacks with 2 Direct Sentences

Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) responded sharply on Tuesday after President Donald Trump labeled her garbage during a Cabinet meeting and disparaged her native country, Somalia. Trump has repeatedly criticized Omar since Thanksgiving.

Somalia, which is barely functioning as a country, they have nothing, just constant conflict, Trump said, adding, And when I watch someone like Ilhan Omar, Ive observed her for years constantly criticizing our Constitution.

The president also accused her of constantly complaining, of harboring anti-Jewish sentiments, and called her a terrible person. Omar, the first refugee born in Africa to serve in Congress, countered on Bluesky with a brief statement alongside a clip of Trumps remarks.

His obsession with me is disturbing, she wrote. I hope he gets the help he so clearly needs.

Trump has repeatedly attacked Omar, including a post on Truth Social that drew criticism even from some supporters. In it, he mocked her appearance, her Muslim faith, and her birthplace, claiming she entered the U.S. illegally and constantly complains about the country and its Constitution.

He also described Somalia as decadent, backward, and crime-ridden, inaccurately asserting it lacks government institutions, military, police, or schools, and announced a halt on migration from all Third World countries.

During the Cabinet meeting, Trump escalated his rhetoric, claiming the nation is at a tipping point due to garbage entering the U.S., specifically calling Omar and her associates garbage.

Omar has consistently used social media to address Trumps attacks. Her response reflects ongoing concerns over his rhetoric and behavior, which have prompted public discussion about the presidents conduct and statements.
