Red Sea Film Festival: Kriti Sanon Excited to Portray Complex Character in 'Tere Ishk Mein' and Happy for Return of Love Stories

Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon attended the Red Sea Film Festival on Friday, participating in an on-stage discussion during the 5th edition of the Saudi Arabian event. Following the conversation, she visited the Variety Lounge hosted by the festival to talk about her recent projects.

Sanon, acclaimed for her 2021 film Mimi, for which she earned both a National Film Award and a Filmfare Award for Best Actress, is currently starring in Aanand L. Rais musical Tere Ishk Mein. She described the film as an intense, chaotic romance and highlighted her role as one of the most intricate characters she has portrayed, playing a woman trapped in an abusive relationship.

What excites me about her is that shes far from perfect. Shes not the stereotypical good girl. She has flaws, just like all of us, and shes incredibly raw and vulnerable, Sanon explained. She pointed out that traditional Hindi cinema often depicted women as delicate, innocent, and submissive, shaped primarily by a male perspective. In contrast, she observed a shift in the industry: Now, many women are writing and directing films, creating characters that are authenticthey make mistakes and they are real.

In addition to portraying a layered character, Sanon expressed her enthusiasm for the resurgence of romantic films. Im thrilled that love stories are making a comeback. Ive missed themtheyre my favorite genre. It felt like the current generation had become hesitant to embrace deep, emotional love, favoring fleeting interactions instead, she said.

She added, Audiences are craving heartfelt romances again, and this year, love stories are finally taking center stage in cinema.
