During an appearance on The Katie Miller Podcast, Pete Hegseth shared that he would not feel comfortable leaving his seven children in the care of Stephen Miller or Marco Rubio. Hegseth appeared on the show alongside his wife, Jen Hegseth, and was asked by host Katie Miller which members of the Trump administration he would trust with his kids.
Oh, I mean, not your husband or Marco, Pete replied, referencing Stephen Miller and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as both Katie and Jen laughed at his remark. He then listed several administration figures he would consider reliable, including Vice President JD Vance, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.
When asked about which officials might struggle with his children, Pete suggested it could be those the kids were most familiar with, specifically naming Rubio and Duffy. Despite not choosing Stephen Miller as a babysitter, Pete mentioned that Miller would be the first person he would call in an emergency situation.
Pete Hegseth, 45, is married to Jen Hegseth, and together they have seven children, including a mix of biological and stepchildren. He has been married three times, previously marrying Meredith Schwarz and Samantha Deering, and has children from each relationship. Pete and Jen married in August 2019 and welcomed a daughter together in 2017. Pete has emphasized that he does not use the step label, stating, there are no steps or halves in the Hegseth clan.
The Hegseth family often shares moments from their life on social media, including holiday celebrations and sporting events. All seven children were present when Pete was sworn in as Secretary of Defense in January 2025, with Jen sharing photos of the family during the ceremony at the White House.
