Margot Robbie praises Jacob Elordi as 'Our Generation's Daniel Day-Lewis' for his role in 'Wuthering Heights'

Margot Robbie has expressed strong admiration for her co-star Jacob Elordi in the upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights, defending him amid criticism regarding his casting as the tormented protagonist, Heathcliff.

Elordis casting has sparked debate due to the characters original description in Emily Bronts 1847 novel as dark-skinned. Robbie, playing Cathy opposite Elordis Heathcliff, reassured fans that his performance will meet expectations. I saw him embody Heathcliff. And he is Heathcliff, Robbie told British Vogue. Wait and see. Trust me, youll be pleased.

Robbie highlighted the legacy of actors who have previously portrayed Heathcliff, including Laurence Olivier, Richard Burton, Ralph Fiennes, and Tom Hardy, emphasizing how special it is for Elordi to join this lineage. Hes remarkable, and I have complete faith in him, she said. She added, Honestly, I think hes our generations Daniel Day-Lewis.

Robbie herself has faced scrutiny for her casting as Cathy, who is younger and described as brunette in the novel. Director Emerald Fennell explained that in this adaptation, Cathys age ranges from mid-20s to early 30s. Robbie acknowledged the criticism, stating, I understand it. Theres nothing more to judge until the movie is seen.

Elordi is coming off critical acclaim for his transformative role as The Creature in Guillermo del Toros Frankenstein and has previously worked with Fennell in the 2023 thriller Saltburn, where he played Felix Catton.

Wuthering Heights is scheduled for release on February 13, 2026.
