Following co-anchor John Dickersons recent departure from CBS Evening News, Maurice DuBois has confirmed he will also be leaving the program. In an Instagram post, DuBois announced he is "moving on" from the co-anchor role he began in August 2024. His last broadcast is scheduled for Thursday, December 18.
"It has been the honor of a lifetime," DuBois wrote. "Over 21 years, including my tenure at WCBS-TV in New York City, I have been privileged to enter your homes nightly, report the news, meet remarkable people, and share their stories. I leave with immense gratitude, treasured relationships, and unforgettable memories. Just a couple more weeks; until then, catch me on The CBS Evening News at 6:30 each night."
Tom Cibrowski, president and executive editor of CBS News, commented: "Maurice has exemplified the best of CBS News and Stations for over twenty years, delivering major stories both in New York studios and in the field. As he prepares to depart later this month, we express our deep appreciation for his remarkable contributions at CBS News New York and the CBS Evening News. He is a respected and valued journalist, and we wish him every success. We hope to collaborate again in the future."
Cibrowski also noted that more information about the next phase of CBS Evening News will be shared soon.
DuBois and Dickerson replaced Norah O'Donnell, who left the anchor chair in January 2025 after a five-year tenure. During O'Donnells time, production had shifted to Washington, D.C., but it has since returned to New York City. The pairing of DuBois and Dickerson marked CBS first co-anchor team since Connie Chung and Dan Rather co-anchored from 1993 to 1995.
DuBois departure is the latest in a series of high-profile exits following Bari Weiss appointment as CBS News editor-in-chief. The evening news broadcast has consistently trailed ABC and NBC in ratings, and efforts to attract other prominent TV journalists to CBS have so far been unsuccessful.
