Russia attacks Ukraine with drones and missiles during peace negotiations

On the night leading into Saturday, Russia conducted a major assault on Ukraine, deploying 653 drones and 51 missiles. The attacks targeted various sites, including a railway station in Fastiv, situated approximately 45 miles southeast of Kyiv, which suffered significant damage. Several railway vehicles were also affected.

Ukrainian air defenses intercepted the majority of the incoming drones and missiles, though some managed to strike key infrastructure. Russian authorities claimed the strikes were aimed at energy facilities, port infrastructure, and military-industrial sites.

The assault resulted in at least eight injuries in the Kyiv region. Ukrenergo, Ukraines national energy company, reported that power stations and other energy-related installations were among the primary targets.

In response to the ongoing conflict, French President Emmanuel Macron announced a meeting in London on Monday with leaders from the U.K., Germany, and Ukraine. The discussions will focus on strategies to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war, which began nearly four years ago.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz are scheduled to participate in talks in London to evaluate the current state of peace negotiations, which are being facilitated by U.S. officials.
