Russian President Vladimir Putin has begun discussions in Moscow with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, according to Russian state media reports. Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, is also participating in the meeting, which focuses on exploring avenues to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Previously, Witkoff and Kushner engaged in talks with Ukrainian officials regarding a US-backed 28-point peace initiative. The plan initially faced criticism from Kyiv and several European nations, who argued it disproportionately favored Russian interests.
Recent modifications to the proposal, negotiated with Ukrainian representatives over the last week, may not gain approval from Moscow. Ahead of the discussions, President Putin stated that the adjustments proposed by European parties were intended to obstruct the peace process, as reported by Russian news agency Interfax.
