Authorities have confirmed that three children were among the four people killed in a mass shooting at a birthday celebration in Stockton, California. The victims were 8, 9, 14, and 21 years old. The attack left a total of 15 individuals injured.
The shooting occurred on Saturday, November 29, shortly before 6 p.m., at a banquet hall near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue. The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, while Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee confirmed that the event was a children's birthday party.
Sheriff's Office spokesperson Heather Brent stated that the banquet hall was hosting a family celebration when the attack took place. In a November 30 update, authorities confirmed the ages of the deceased and emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Initial reports suggest the incident may have been targeted, and all possibilities are being considered.
The sheriff's office encouraged community members to continue providing tips, video footage, and witness accounts to aid investigators in identifying the suspects. "Detectives are actively working on descriptions and locating those responsible for this horrific act," the office stated.
Authorities paid tribute to the victims, saying, "Our hearts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this devastating violence." They urged anyone with information or video evidence to come forward to assist the investigation.
Among the injured was a 9-year-old child, who was reported in fair condition at Dignity Health-St. Joseph Medical Center. Another victim remained in critical condition as of Sunday night.
Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee expressed his sorrow on social media, stating that the tragedy deeply affected him as a member of the community. He emphasized the need for truth, justice, and support for the affected families.
Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi also shared her distress, describing the trauma endured by children and families who witnessed the violence. She announced a total reward of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved, contributed by Crimestoppers, herself, and Councilwoman Mariela Ponce.
The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to work with the community to bring those responsible to justice.
