NATO jets deployed in Poland in response to Russian attacks on Ukraine

Polish authorities have activated NATO fighter jets and elevated air defense systems in response to overnight drone and missile attacks by Russia on Ukraine, according to the Armed Forces Operational Command in Warsaw.

"Fighter aircraft have been deployed and ground-based air defense along with radar surveillance systems are at heightened readiness," the command stated on X. "These measures are precautionary and aim to secure the airspace, particularly in regions close to potential threats."

The heightened alert lasted nearly four hours. After this period, the command confirmed that the jets and defense systems returned to normal operations. No incursions into Polish airspace were detected during the alert.

The response involved Spanish and Czech air forces, alongside German and Dutch air defense units.

Ukraine reported that Russia launched 653 drones and 51 missiles overnight, including 17 ballistic missiles. Ukrainian defenses successfully intercepted or neutralized 585 drones and 30 missiles.

The attacks impacted 29 locations, marking Russia's most extensive overnight assault since October 29, when 705 munitions were fired. Historically, the largest single night attack occurred on September 6, with 823 aerial attack vehicles deployed. This recent attack is only the fourth in the war exceeding 700 air attack vehicles.

Kyiv and Cherniev were among the areas struck. Ukrainian authorities reported at least three injuries in the capital. In Odesa, damage to an energy facility caused interruptions in power and heating supply.

"Russia continues to target critical civilian infrastructure, including our energy and transportation systems," said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. "This demonstrates that actions to support Ukraine and pressure Russia cannot be delayed, even under the guise of peace efforts."

Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that its forces shot down at least 116 drones during the night.
