Jake Humphrey's 'life lessons' introduced in schools

Television personality Jake Humphrey has launched a free educational programme aimed at tackling what he describes as a "deeply concerning" mental health issue among young people in Norfolk. The former sports presenter has adapted content from his "life lesson" podcast into materials suitable for secondary school students.

The programme, called Game Plan, focuses on six core areas, including maintaining a positive outlook and managing stress, with the goal of strengthening mental resilience among youth.

"Our experience shows that bringing Game Plan into schools enhances young people's mental fortitude the solution lies in education and local community support," Humphrey said.

Humphrey established the High Performance Foundation after starting his podcast in 2020, which features conversations with "elite performers" from sports, business, and the arts about the mindset and habits behind sustained success.

Recent research commissioned by the charity, involving nearly 4,000 children and teenagers, highlighted that East Anglia ranks among the regions with the lowest levels of mental strength. NHS data also indicates that one in five children in Norfolk experiences anxiety or emotional distress.

"These numbers are extremely worrying. We must carefully consider not only why this is happening but also how to address it," Humphrey told BBC Radio Norfolk.

Humphrey aims to bring his Game Plan programme, featuring what he calls "incredible conversations," to every secondary school in Norfolk, with the ultimate goal of expanding nationwide. He emphasized that local investment is crucial for success.

"Without access to youth clubs, supportive community spaces, or transport to nearby cities like Norwich, young people can feel isolated and face significant challenges," he added.
