Kelly Osbourne has expressed that naming Birmingham Airport after her father, Ozzy Osbourne, would serve as an "extraordinary tribute to his achievements and the enduring impact he has made."
A petition advocating for the airport's name change has already gathered 77,000 signatures. Dan Hudson, who launched the petition, stated, "The campaign keeps gaining momentum."
The airport has yet to release an official response to the latest push, though it previously confirmed plans were underway to pay tribute to Ozzy's legacy. Hudson emphasized his determination, saying, "This movement isn't going away."
Speaking to BBC WM, Kelly Osbourne remarked that naming the airport after her father is appropriate, as "this city shaped him, and he, in turn, shaped this city."
Supporters of the renaming point to examples worldwide, where airports honor notable figures, including Liverpools John Lennon Airport, New Yorks JFK and LaGuardia, and New Orleans Louis Armstrong Airport.
Hudson reported that his campaign has been progressing "very well" and received positive feedback during a recent Birmingham City Council meeting. He also noted strong backing from much of Ozzy Osbournes family.
Birmingham Airport's most recent statement highlighted their plans: "We are developing a special tribute to Ozzy Osbourne to enhance Birminghams identity and celebrate his connection with fans. His talent, dedication, and hard work have inspired many locally and globally, and we remain committed to honoring his legacy within our terminal."
