Bulldozer crashes into village pub during opening hours

In the small village of Cefn Rhigos, Rhondda Cynon Taf, a bulldozer plowed into a local pub while patrons were enjoying their drinks, demolishing the front porch and causing extensive damage to the exterior walls.

Police were alerted shortly after 20:45 GMT on Thursday, following reports that a JCB had first driven over an unattended car before colliding with the New Inn. Authorities have arrested a 35-year-old man from Rhigos on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving, criminal damage, and driving under the influence. The suspect is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

No other injuries were reported. South Wales Police indicated that the incident "may have been deliberate rather than random" and confirmed that they are not seeking additional suspects. Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A BBC correspondent at the scene described the New Inns front porch as completely destroyed, with the pitched roof collapsed onto the ground and sections of the outer wall severely damaged. Witnesses noted a JCB leaving the pub just before 21:00.

Police thanked the public for their assistance during the incident, which they said was "quickly brought under control," and reassured that there is no ongoing danger to residents. Rhigos Road remains partially closed with a police cordon in place.
