At least 23 people die in fire at nightclub in India's Goa

Authorities report that at least 23 people lost their lives in a fire at a well-known nightclub in Goa, a popular tourist destination in India. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed the fatalities and shared details about the victims causes of death.

The blaze erupted around midnight on Sunday at a club located in Arpora, North Goa, according to the Press Trust of India, citing local officials. Among the deceased were several tourists visiting the area.

This is an extremely tragic day for Goa. A serious fire at Arpora has resulted in 23 fatalities, Sawant posted on X. He added that he had visited the site personally and has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. Those found accountable will face the strictest legal consequences. Any negligence will be addressed decisively, he stated.

Social media images showed emergency responders transporting injured individuals into ambulances, while videos captured flames and thick smoke billowing from the building.

Sawant informed reporters that three of the victims died from severe burns, while the remaining suffered from suffocation. He noted that among the dead were three to four tourists.

Goa, once a Portuguese colony on the Arabian Sea, attracts millions of visitors annually due to its vibrant nightlife, scenic beaches, and relaxed coastal ambiance.
