Just as the controversy surrounding the BBCs mishandled edit of Donald Trump coverage began to settle, the broadcaster is now facing backlash from another prominent conservative figure. Nigel Farage, the leader of the UKs Reform Party and a known supporter of Donald Trump, reacted angrily during a press conference on Thursday after a BBC journalist posed a provocative question.
Earlier in the day, BBC Radio 4 presenter Emma Barnett asked Richard Tice, Farages deputy, about Nigel Farages relationship when he was younger with Hitler, referencing a Guardian investigation alleging Farage made antisemitic jokes during his school years. Farage has consistently denied any racial abuse.
Speaking directly to the BBC, Farage said, I found this mornings questioning by one of your junior presenters on the Today program completely disgraceful. Framing a question about the leader of the Reform Party in connection with Hitler was utterly appalling.
He further criticized the broadcaster for what he called its double standards and hypocrisy, demanding an apology for programming aired in the 1970s and 1980s. At the time I was accused of making these remarks, your network was airing The Black and White Minstrel Show, happily using blackface. I cannot tolerate the BBCs double standards,
he said.
When pressed further, Farage refused to continue the discussion, stating, Im done with you. Until you apologize for your appalling output at the time I was accused of these things, which I deny, I will not speak further.
The BBC has not issued a response regarding Farages demands for an apology.
