Kent women showcased in 'empowering' new photo collection

Two women from Kent are featured in a compelling new photography project that explores the often-overlooked aspects of women's lives. The series, titled Circle of Care, is the work of photographer Anita Corbin, who aims to shed light on "one of society's remaining taboos women in their later years, beyond the roles of carers and family supporters."

"I've always been fascinated by the stories about women that go untold," Corbin explained. "There is extraordinary beauty, wisdom, and dignity in later life."

She emphasized, "Life doesn't end when care becomes necessary; it simply takes on a new form."

The portraits capture the women engaging in their favourite pastimes, such as gardening and completing puzzles. Among the participants is 75-year-old Lesley Rogers, who is pictured with her carers and family in her Ashford residence. Also included is a 98-year-old woman from Sevenoaks, portrayed enjoying activities that bring her joy.

Corbin noted, "Care is not only something women give; it is also a space where they remain themselvesvisible, valued, and fully alive."

The initiative emphasizes visibility, according to the collaborating organisation. Consultus Care and Nursing, which partnered with Corbin, highlighted that the project is meant to demonstrate that with proper support, individuals can continue to live joyfully and independently at home. "We want these images to show that care can enhance life rather than diminish it," stated CEO Peter Seldon.
