Senator claims that unresisting man suffered 'horrific' injuries during ICE detention by 'attack dog'

A U.S. senator has sharply criticized the Trump administration after claiming that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) dog violently attacked one of her constituents. Washington state senator Patty Murray stated that Wilmer Toledo-Martinez sustained terrifying wounds when ICE officers apprehended him in November.

According to Murray, an ICE agent allegedly deceived Toledo-Martinez by pretending to be a construction worker who said he had damaged Toledo-Martinezs car and needed him to come outside. Once he stepped out, another agent hiding nearby unleashed a dog on him.

Murray said Toledo-Martinez, who was brought to the U.S. at 15 and remains undocumented, made no attempt to resist or escape. She added that he is currently held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center and that the arrest occurred in front of his wife and two young children, all of whom are U.S. citizens. She demanded his immediate release.

The senator reported that after the dog attack, Toledo-Martinez was left disoriented, shaking, and briefly lost his vision. Despite this, she said he was denied medical treatment for several hours. He was eventually transported to a hospital, where he received stitches and was prescribed antibiotics and other medications; however, Murray stated that the antibiotics were delayed and the additional medication was never provided.

Photographs shared by Murray showed significant lacerations along Toledo-Martinezs torso. She said such actions should alarm all Americans and condemned the use of dogs against unarmed individuals without accountability.

The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, did not immediately provide a response to requests for comment.

The incident surfaced as Vancouver, Washington police announced an investigation into a separate case in which an ICE agent allegedly drove over a mans foot during an arrest. Local reports identified the man as Jose Guadalupe Paniagua Calderon, 27, who was reportedly struck by an agents vehicle during the encounter.

On Friday, Arizona congresswoman Adelita Grijalva stated that she was hit in the face with a chemical agent during a protest against a federal immigration operation at a Tucson restaurant. In a joint statement, Tucson mayor Regina Romero and vice mayor Lane Santa Cruz said the enforcement action escalated rapidly and resulted in violence against members of the public.
