Authorities are currently looking into an incident in Tennessee where a school bus caught fire while traveling on Highway 49 on December 3 at approximately 4:15 p.m. local time. All students aboard were quickly evacuated and brought to safety.
According to reports from Dickson County School officials and local news affiliates, the bus was heading eastbound with elementary school children when smoke was first noticed. The bus driver immediately stopped the vehicle and ensured the students exited safely before the flames spread.
The fire fully consumed the bus shortly afterward. The Believe Harpeth Ridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze. Emergency Management Director Rob Fisher confirmed that the bus was destroyed and that no injuries occurred during the event.
One first-grade student, Penelope Winters of Charlotte Elementary School, recalled noticing the flames first and alerting the driver, saying that her action helped prevent harm to her classmates. Her sister, Asher Winters, a second grader at the same school, mentioned she was the first to leave the bus out of fear it might explode.
Parents on the scene described the bus as heavily damaged, with smoke and burned interiors visible when they arrived. One parent noted that her child remained calm throughout the evacuation, helping to reduce panic.
The Dickson County Sheriffs Office has confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
