Residents of Jersey are being invited to provide their feedback and experiences regarding hospital care for patients living with dementia. A new Hospital Dementia Charter is being developed to outline the standards and expectations for people with dementia, as well as for their families and care-partners, when visiting Jersey General Hospital.
Dementia Jersey is seeking input from carers whose family member or friend with dementia has received hospital care in the past few years. This includes visits to the outpatient department, the emergency department, and in-patient stays.
The charity explained that the feedback will help the hospital team enhance services, learn from real experiences, and produce a charter that effectively supports both patients with dementia and those who care for them.
There are three ways for the public to contribute: participating in a small discussion group, meeting in person with the hospital team, or arranging a brief telephone conversation.
It is estimated that approximately 1,600 residents are living with dementia on the island. Jersey's first dementia strategy, published in June 2024, aims to improve care and support for people affected by the condition.
