Mother Arrested After Her 2 and 4-Year-Old Children Eat Her THC Gummies: Authorities

Law enforcement in Gibson County responded to a call on November 28 after a mother reported that her two young children, ages 2 and 4, had consumed her THCA gummies. The children were found unresponsive upon the deputies' arrival, according to an affidavit obtained from the Gibson County Sheriffs Office.

The mother, 43-year-old Candice Hickson, explained that her children had access to the gummies while she was in the bathroom. Both children were immediately taken to Le Bonheur Childrens Hospital for medical care and were discharged within 48 hours.

Hickson was arrested and booked into the Gibson County Jail on November 30. She has been formally charged with child abuse, neglect, and endangerment. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 16.

Following the incident, the children were placed under the care of the Tennessee Department of Childrens Services after Hickson tested positive for methamphetamine. Tennessee District Attorney Frederick H. Agee emphasized that the case will be handled according to the law, while also providing Hickson with opportunities for addiction treatment, aiming for a potential safe reunification with her children in the future.
