LOS ANGELES Dillon Brooks led the Phoenix Suns with 33 points, while Collin Gillespie contributed 16 of his personal best 28 points in the fourth quarter as Phoenix convincingly defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 125-108 on Monday night, halting the Lakers' seven-game winning streak.
Devin Booker managed only 11 points before exiting in the final two minutes of the first quarter due to a right groin injury, yet the Suns delivered an impressive performance without their star scorer. Gillespie made a career-high eight three-pointers, helping Phoenix recover from a stretch where they lost three of four games.
The Suns capitalized on 22 Lakers turnovers and surged to a 21-point lead in the third quarter, dominating Los Angeles despite Luka Doncic's 38 points. Austin Reaves added 16 points for the Lakers, who were facing their third home game in four nights.
Los Angeles struggled for most of the game after Doncic scored 20 points in another standout first quarter. LeBron James finished with 10 points, maintaining his remarkable streak of scoring in double figures for 1,297 consecutive regular-season games. James sank a three-pointer with 6:51 remaining to extend the streak, which began on January 7, 2007.
Brooks carried the Suns offensively in the first half, scoring 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting while Booker was sidelined. Gillespie then took over in the second half, draining a series of crucial perimeter shots that helped secure the victory.
